Description
This is a difficult route that runs through pasture land and riverbanks around the Almonte River, the only major river in the province of Cáceres that is not dammed.
To leave Torrejón el Rubio we will pass through the center of the town to exit on Calle Florinda la Cava. When we arrive in front of the “Minas de Torrejón” we turn right to take the road to Charco Lobo. Just after crossing the Arroyo de las Casas, the Calleja de las Parras comes out on the left. We will go along it until we reach the Arroyo de Retuerta, along which we will continue along its left bank. After about 300 meters you have to cross the Arroyo to take the Calleja de los dos Lotes. We will continue along this road until we reach the Cañada Real Trujillana or Cañada Real de la Plata. Turn left and go straight ahead. We will have to cross the EX208 and not leave this road until we reach approximately kilometer 8.8 where we must make the first turn to the left and then follow a path that goes to the right and that is where the Cañada continues. We will continue along this Cañada. Before arriving at Almonte we will have to cross the Camino de los Estados and the EX208. Next to this crossroads we will have to open a gate to continue along the Cañada. This is a very technical point with a steep descent and no trail. At the end of the descent, we will have to open a new gate. From there we will take the EX208 to cross the Almonte River and make the ascent to the Cuerda del Jarrín, where we will turn left again. We will travel along this trail for almost 8 kilometers. We come across the Rural ravine of the Puerto de Miravete. We will take it to the right towards Jaraicejo. We will pass by a rest area and descend towards the Almonte River through a rocky, very technical and dangerous descent. We will cross the Almonte River over the 15th century Jaraicejo Bridge and drive up to Jaraicejo on the N-V road. When you reach the village turn left onto the EX385 towards Torrejón el Rubio. Just at the exit of the locality we will take the track that goes to the right. About four kilometers later we return to the EX385, we will go to the left, to take the first road that comes out on the right. We will not leave this road until 10 kilometers later when we return to the EX385. We will take this road to the left towards Torrejón el Rubio. At the intersection with the EX208 we will go to the right. After about 500 meters we will take the Cordel Auxiliar and follow it until we reach Torrejón el Rubio. Be careful in this section because we will have to cross the EX208 three times.
