Description:
We leave from the tourist office of Torrejón el Rubio, and continue through the popular neighborhood of “Corchito”. After a fork in the road, we reach the sports complex, which consists of the Municipal Swimming Pool and the Soccer Field. We take the road Torrejón-Casas del Puerto. We cross the Arroyo del Manantío, one of the most abundant streams in the area in autumn and winter, and from the path itself we can see the dense vegetation of the banks of the “Arroyo de las Casas”, a place where it is not difficult to observe numerous birds and the passage of otters. We leave on the right the “Embalse del Corchito”, a dam built in the second half of the 20th century, to continue along the same path that we will never leave. The prevailing landscape is that of pastureland crossed by numerous streams, which cross the road from time to time.
Halfway along the road we come across the “Regadío de los Arias”, a large area that today is used for corn and pasture land, but in the past it was a fertile land with a wide variety of crops such as tobacco, peppers, asparagus, melons.
A couple of kilometers later, several drying sheds belonging to the “El Criadero” farm, which were once dedicated to tobacco, appear.
After a small watercourse appears the Arroyo De la Vid, completely tamed by the Embalse de los Arias. After strolling along the shore of the reservoir we reach the wall, built in the 60s of the twentieth century in order to supply water to nearby irrigated land. At this point we will return to continue along the same path.
We are in the heart of the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve.
