The mines of Torrejón el Rubio

Located only 4 kilometers from the urban center of the locality

The material mined in these mines was a naturally occurring hydrated magnesium aluminum silicate used as an anti-settling agent. It is mainly used in fertilizers, fertilizers, pesticides and even animal feed. Ehese quarries began to be exploited during the 1960s and were later acquired by the Tolsa S.A. group, the country’s largest producer of this type of clay, most of which was destined for export, especially to European Union countries, the Persian Gulf and Japan.
